Rumor has it Facebook is on its path to become the next giant company to adopt the emerging technology. Earlier this month, the social media network has announced five new blockchain positions they’re looking to hire. Among those – data engineer, data scientist, two software engineers, and a product marketing lead. All are full-time positions to be based in Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, CA.

According to the ad, the newly formed blockchain-centered team will be “vital to the company’s mission of problem solving and community building, and specifically in “exploring the opportunities the blockchain will bring.” According to Facebook, their blockchain system will have to be able to handle “millions of requests per second,” and to do so in a “fault tolerant manner.”

However, the project itself is kept in the dark secret, as of now. In a broad statement relating to its development, Facebook notes that their goal is mainly to help people to get access “to things like equitable finances, new ways to save, or new ways to share information.” Which blockchain solution is going to be implemented by Facebook remains to be seen, but the fact that the social media giant with almost 2.5 billion worldwide users has expressed such a vital interest in the blockchain technology could be a game changer.
